William Finizio, a litigation attorney at Wolff & Samson, helps clients resolve complex commercial disputes in both state and federal courts. His practice focuses on commercial litigation; securities litigation, arbitration, regulation and enforcement; ERISA litigation; and corporate compliance and monitoring.
In the securities area, Bill’s practice includes the representation of major broker-dealers and their affiliates and employees in various litigations and arbitrations, customer complaint arbitrations and enforcement of restrictive covenants. He also advises and assists clients in matters involving securities regulation and enforcement, including representing securities firms in relation to investigations, inquiries, and industry sweeps conducted by FINRA (formerly the NASD), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and state regulators. He also advises broker-dealers with general compliance issues.
Bill’s experience also includes:
- A complex litigation involving numerous state and federal law claims, in which Bill successfully defended individual police officers, a police department and a municipality in a case that claimed civil rights violations committed by police officers alleged to have planted a gun on plaintiffs; Bill’s motion for summary judgment resulted in a dismissal of all claims against all clients
- Defending a national carrier in numerous policyholder claims for denial of benefits under group policies governed by ERISA; All cases were resolved by summary judgment or through settlement favorable to the client
- Serving as counsel to a federal monitor appointed by the U.S. Attorney's Office in connection with investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice; Bill also was part of a legal team that advised and assisted the federal monitor in overseeing the corporate compliance of one of the nation’s largest orthopedic implant manufacturers
Prior to joining Wolff & Samson, Bill was a judicial law clerk to Hudson County Superior Court Presiding Judge Elaine L. Davis before joining the Hudson County prosecutor’s office. As an assistant prosecutor with the county, he tried numerous armed robbery, aggravated sexual assault, arson and gambling cases.
Bill received his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and is a summa cum laude graduate of Seton Hall University.
